Expansion for quality and health & safety specialist Right Directions

Quality and health and safety specialist Right Directions has welcomed four new members to its team.

Tricia Lewis, 69, joins the company from 1Life Management Solutions where she was Head of Health, Safety and Quality, a national role with Corporate responsibility all sites. Lewis has been in the leisure industry for more than 30 years, enjoying a number of roles from Swimming Development Manager to Brand Operations Manager. Her new position as Right Directions’ Quality and Health & Safety Co-ordinator will see her reviewing procedures and keeping clients updated and informed through regular communications.

“I wasn’t quite ready to hang up my hard hat when I left 1Life earlier this year. Right Directions is the most respected quality management company in the UK and having worked with the team in my previous role I was delighted and flattered to be invited to join them. The Right Directions and Quest team members are great to work with – very supportive, knowledgable and friendly.”

Andy Waters, 40, joins from RDHS, where is was the lead on health and safety for the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, which achieved a 5 star award in the British Safety Council’s ‘5 Star Health and Safety Management System Audit’ in 2012. His role as Health and Safety Manager will see him auditing and providing support to clients countrywide, across a diverse range of facilities and activities ranging from the mobilisation of new builds to established leisure facilities.

Waters has 20 years experience in the leisure and hospitality industry, having worked in a variety of roles across health and safety and quality consultancy for private and public sector leisure operators and 4 star hotel chains.

“During my career I have worked on some really interesting projects including guiding and supporting the 2012 Olympic Games Canoe Slalom, 2014 Comic Relief, the England Hockey London Investec Cup last year and Sir Bradley Wiggins 1hr record attempt June 2015,” he said. “But career progression and a new challenge drew me to Right Directions. I enjoy diversity and due to the mix of Right Directions’ client base, in this new role every day will be different.”

Keen to continue his career progression Waters is currently studying Level 4 NVQ in Spectator Safety Management.

The new positions also include Administration Support, which has been filled by 27-year-old Charli Turner. Her role involves providing Business Development Admin Support, new and ongoing client assistance and support for Right Directions’ STITCH accident benchmarking platform.

“For the most part I have always worked for relatively small organisations that have a passion for what they do,” said Turner, an avid gym fan and qualified Pilates Instructor. “I am a strong believer and advocate in loving what you do and because of that being good at it. When I looked at this role and the variation within it I really felt that this was a company I could be a part of and become an asset within and I was right.

“I am loving my new role – the people, the range of what the company does, the commitment to clients and staff, and feeling appreciated and involved. The job encompasses so many interesting areas of the business.”

Christine Coppack, 54, has also been appointed to Right Directions and joins from Everyone Active as Quality Manager.

“My leisure career started after the birth of my children, as I no longer wanted a daily commute to London combined with the world of international trading,” said Coppack, who has worked in the leisure industry now for more than 25 years. “Retraining gave me an opportunity to work in an area I was interested in, at a time when it was becoming innovative and regulated, providing an exciting experience rather than the old style keep fit!

Coppack began as gym and class instructor, eventually teaching master classes and workshops around the country, before moving into membership sales and finally operational management, from Duty Manager to Area Manager, where she was responsible for multi sites.

“During this journey I’ve worked for three large leisure companies who have all played a part in developing and growing me as a manager, but I needed a new challenge and my role as a Quality Manager is exciting, provides variety and allows me to share my experiences,” she continued.
