Trafford’s Women of Inspiration Award winners experience luxury treatments at move Altrincham’s new spa The Cove

Exceptional women from across Trafford were some of the first to experience the luxury spa facilities at Trafford Leisure’s move Altrincham following its multi-million pound refurbishment.

The women were winners of the leisure trust’s ‘Altrincham and Trafford Women of Inspiration’ campaign, launched for International Women’s Day earlier this year, and received exclusive experiences at the brand-new The Cove Spa in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their communities.

Trafford Leisure’s campaign invited nominations for local women who are leading change, supporting others, overcoming personal challenges or making a difference in everyday life. From more than 50 powerful nominations received, 20 winners were selected by the judging panel of Jo Cherrett, CEO of Trafford Leisure, Councillor Joanne Harding, Executive Member for Finance, Change and Governance at Trafford Council, Suze Townley, owner of MOST Bakery, and Jessica McGarry, CEO Support at Trafford Leisure.

Among the inspiring winners were Laura Borthwick, who has tirelessly campaigned for mental health awareness and raised funds for the Samaritans following her sister’s suicide, and Debbie Boland, a breast cancer survivor and BooBee Ambassador whose advocacy work has contributed more than £170,000 of funds for the new Breast Screening Academy at Wythenshawe Hospital.

Another winner, Charlotte Percy, a Family Law Solicitor at Lund Bennett Law Altrincham, was recognised for her charitable efforts and pioneering approach to female representation in the legal industry. She said: “It was such a privilege to be recognised and to celebrate alongside so many incredible women making a difference in our community. My visit to The Cove Spa at move Altrincham was a wonderful experience – a chance to pause, reflect and feel uplifted. I work for a business in Trafford, and we see every day how important it is for people to feel supported during life’s big challenges. It was inspiring to be part of an event that shines a light on this resilience and achievement.”

The winners enjoyed access to the luxury thermal suite, complimentary Elemis treatments, a glass of fizz and treats from move Altrincham’s café, MOST Bakery, as well as spa gifts to take home.

Jo Cherrett, CEO of Trafford Leisure says: “We loved reading all the entries to our ‘Altrincham and Trafford Women of Inspiration’ campaign, it was so difficult to choose our winners. These remarkable women embody the spirit of our community and what better way to celebrate their incredible contributions than by welcoming our winners as some of our first guests to experience the luxury wellness facilities at The Cove. move Altrincham represents our commitment to creating healthier and more connected communities across Trafford, and these women are already leading by example in supporting and empowering those around them.”

The 500sqm Cove spa is one of only a handful of public sector spa offerings in the UK. Operating in a community leisure setting, the spa is striving to democratise access to wellness for all local residents.

Facilities include four treatment rooms, offering ELEMIS facials and body treatments, as well as Mii manicures and pedicures at three manicure stations and two pedicure stations. A large thermal area, supplied by Sauna360, includes a vitality pool, sensory and drench showers, an ice fountain and heated relaxation loungers. There is also an aroma steam room with back heated ceramic tiles, a herbal infusion juniper sauna and a salt therapy sauna with natural Himalayan salt blocks.

Open seven-days-a-week for maximum accessibility, The Cove also offers beauty salon services and a dedicated treatment menu for teens. Holistic offerings include reflexology, Reiki, Hopi ear candles and Indian head massage. Spa days and packages start from £55, with treatments starting at £40.

Cherrett says: “This is the second Trafford Leisure site to open under the new move brand and we are proud to redefine what community wellness looks and feels like. The spa sector can often feel exclusive and inaccessible. By offering accessible treatments and spa experiences, The Cove is helping us reimagine community leisure wellness, creating a space where physical activity and relaxation seamlessly come together for our local residents.”
