Top score for Mytime Active’s golf courses

Mytime Active’s golf courses have never been busier, following a £75,000 investment over the last year, with figures revealing a surge in players teeing off and hitting the driving ranges. This summer’s glorious weather looks set to keep the momentum going.

From March 2025 to March this year almost 700,000 rounds of golf were played on Mytime Active’s courses, that’s around 50 million balls! Just under half a million balls were also hit at its driving ranges. Plus, each 18-hole round involves walking up to six kilometres, meaning golfers covered an impressive three million kilometres across Mytime Active’s different courses in the last financial year.

Mytime Active manages 10 golf courses across the UK, with six in the Midlands alone, offering everything from nine and 18-hole courses to a 24-bay driving range with 12 heated bays and a state-of-the-art TopTracer tracking system that accurately tracks and analyses every shot – just as professional golfers do. As well as practice putting and chipping greens, there are PGA Professionals on hand for both adult and junior lessons.

As a charity, Mytime Active reinvests all profits for community benefit, which means the money from every ball hit goes directly back into delivering leisure opportunities for the local community.

Steve May, Chief Executive of Mytime Active, says: “Our aim is to provide affordable, accessible, competitive golf in welcoming and sociable surroundings. Golf at Mytime Active’s courses isn’t just for regular players who are members of the club. Anyone can give this great sport a go. It’s a fantastic way to boost your step count in the great outdoors whilst enjoying the challenge of the game and the camaraderie and conversations with other players.”

Whilst the average age of players at Mytime Active’s courses is 57, 40% of members are aged under 25 and 8% of those are under 16, so golf really is a sport for all. And what’s more, you don’t have to be a member – anyone can simply pay and play. In fact, in the last financial year, almost 3,500 new customers booked for the first time.

Mytime Active data shows 82% of its players are currently men and the charity wants to encourage more women to come along and try golf out; just like Pat Lucas, 77, who took up golf at Pype Hayes Golf Course when she was 50.

“I had no idea what I was doing; I just started hitting the ball and thought it was good fun,” says Pat, who now plays with Pype Hayes ladies’ section every week. “We all know each other well now and switch up who we play with. Everyone has something different going on in their lives, so it’s really levelling.”

When Pat’s husband passed away and she found herself on her own after 50 years, Thursday golf gave her a reason to get out of the house. “Golf is very mindful,” she says. “When you’re playing you forget everything else – you can’t worry or stress about your problems – and it helped to be around people who knew him. I would never do the exercise without it, and there’s always a social event and something to do for the club on the horizon.”
