New look for Poult Wood driving range

The driving range at Poult Wood Golf Course has reopened for business after a total refurbishment costing £30,000.

As well as boasting 12 new True Strike mats, a £10,000 investment which ensures the range is as close to practicing on a natural surface as possible, there are new target nets and flags, and new tower markers to help golfers accurately judge the distance they’re hitting the ball. A new ball dispenser, conveyor and pick-up machine have also been installed to ensure the range offers state-of-the-art facilities.

The range also be getting a state-of-the-art Flightscope system in March, which uses a Doppler radar to track users shots in many different ways in order to better understand their game. The information enables golfers to maximise distance, control disbursement and create meaningful gaps between each club.

The driving range forms an integral part of the offering at Poult Wood, and is managed by tmactive on behalf of Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council (TMBC), who invested the funds for the redevelopment.

Martin Guyton, chief executive of tmactive, said: “Practicing on a driving range helps golfers to create some consistency in their game and get a better idea of which club they should be selecting for which shot. Poult Wood’s driving range is now perfectly placed to help both our members and visitors hone their game, and this refurbishment ensures we can now offer the full golfing package for everyone from beginners and members to the society golfer.”

The new driving range also provides an ideal environment for teaching, and Poult Wood’s dedicated PGA Pro, David Copsey, will be launching new junior and adult teaching programmes and ‘get into golf’ lessons this March.
