Moving with the times at Impulse Leisure Blackshots

Impulse Leisure has listened to members’ feedback and given it’s Blackshots gym in Essex a full refurbishment, complete with new Technogym kit. The gym reopened at the beginning of this month.

A GYMetrix survey carried out last year revealed members and local people wanted more cable resistance kit, more free weights and state-of-the-art fitness equipment in the Blackshots gym. With this in mind, the £510,000 refurbishment included a new, larger free weights area with more weights, dumbbells and benches, more cable resistance machines and new Technogym Excite+ CV equipment.

The Excite+ CV equipment includes the ‘unity platform’, which enables users to check social media, browse the web and play games while working out.

The 630m2 gym also features new energy-efficient lighting, a fitness assessment area with a Boditrax K780 Body Composition Analyser – which gives medical grade composition scans and insights – and a complete redecoration of the whole workout area.

Impulse Leisure Blackshots manager, Jack Donovan, says: “You don’t get fit by standing still. You need to keep moving, and so do we! Our members told us they wanted more cable machines, free weights and fitness kit and we listened. The new Blackshots gym boasts state-of-the-art CV machines, a bigger area for working out with free weights and a brand new look – the best facilities so our members can achieve the best results.”

Karl Hayes, Impulse Leisure’s Group Operations Manager, says: “Leisure Centres – and gyms in particular – are increasingly all about the entire customer experience, very similar to restaurants and bars. Gone are the days when bare flat walls, simply
functional changing rooms and basic kit were enough to meet members’ needs; customer expectations have risen and members now expect – and deserve – much more for their money.”
