Guildford’s new health and fitness facility, Horizon Guildford to sponsor local wellbeing festival
Horizon Guildford, a new charitable health, fitness and wellbeing facility due to open in Guildford’s former Sports Direct gym in May, will be sponsoring this years’ Burpham Wellfest, a local festival promoting wellbeing within the local community.
Burpham Welfest, taking place on the 9th July at Sutherland Memorial Park, will focus on bringing health and fitness to the community, with a large number of local groups and health enterprises on site giving residents the chance to find out more about personal routes to wellbeing.
Entry to the festival is free and will include lots of free demonstrations and talks. Suitable for everyone, the activities include exercise, mediation, healing, nutrition, arts and crafts, tai chi and yoga, as well as local sports clubs and positive community-minded lifestyle choices, such as upcycling and recycling.
Mike Lyons is CEO of Horizon Leisure, which already manages award-winning leisure facilities in Hampshire. He says: “We are delighted to be opening a new site in Guildford and are keen to embed Horizon Leisure into the local community. As a true charitable organisation, any surplus made by Horizon will be reinvested, providing community benefit for the people of Guildford. We are passionate about wellbeing and are always looking at ways to make health and fitness more accessible. As such, we are thrilled to be able to support and sponsor this fantastic local festival and plan to bring a line dancing activity to the festival for people to try.
“We appreciate that making those first steps towards better health can sometimes feel overwhelming, and bringing health and wellbeing out to the community at this festival gives people the opportunity to find out more about lots of different activities and groups in a relaxed, fun and informal environment. We understand people come in all shapes and sizes and so do our activities; you’ll find there is an offer and an activity for everyone, whatever your age, gender, background.”
Ruth Stone, organiser of Burpham Wellfest says: “We’re really excited that Horizon Guildford will be one of the Burpham Wellfest sponsors this year. Our shared values about caring for the community through wellbeing make them a perfect fit.
“One of our primary aims is to offer wellbeing that is sustainable for the long term, which means it needs to be local, accessible and suitable for the participant. Because Horizon Guildford is a local wellbeing provider it will enable Burpham Wellfest to meet that goal.”
