Councillor Liz Patel bring family to opening of move Urmston’s Clip and Climb wall

The Clip and Climb wall at move Urmston has finally opened, with Councillor Liz Patel and her family attending a free public opening event.

The climbing wall, which features 12 different challenges for adults and children, is the first of its kind within Trafford, and sits within move Urmston’s stunning glass atrium. The climbing sessions are available to both adults and children, and are suitable for anyone from the age of four, as long as they can fit in the harness.

Councillor for Sale Moor, Executive Member Leisure and Culture, Liz Patel says: “My children, aged eight, 11 and 13, had a great time and can’t wait to return. They were really excited to try out the clip and climb wall and enjoyed every minute. The support and encouragement from Trafford Leisure staff during our session was fantastic.

“Health and wellbeing is a major priority for Trafford Council, and move Urmston, with its fantastic climbing wall, will help thousands of families to get active whilst providing them with lots of fun at the same time.”

Craig Lomas, General Manager, move Urmston says: “It was great to see so many families, including Councillor Patel’s, having a go on the climbing wall; for many it was their first time, and you could see them grow with confidence during the climbing sessions.  Clip and Climb walls are such good family entertainment whilst also encouraging physical activity and exercise. It’s tougher than it looks! You really have to concentrate, and use both your flexibility and strength to scale the wall.”

Jo Cherrett, COO, Trafford Leisure says: “The climbing wall has been a real talking point in Urmston, as our neighbours have watched and waited for its opening since Covid restrictions have lifted.  Trafford Leisure is committed to its vision of making Trafford the most active borough in England, and is dedicated to getting people to move more every day, so we are really excited to now be in the position to safely open the facility, and are hopeful lots of people will try out a new activity for the first time.”

move Urmston’s Clip and Climb wall is now open to the general public, with ‘move well’ members getting a free session each week within their membership.
