Celebrity trainer to the stars works up a sweat in Trafford

Trafford residents were treated to a special surprise when celebrity personal trainer, Pierre Pozzuto, head coach at London’s famous Third Space health club, dropped in to the borough’s local leisure centres to teach his classes.

The five group exercise classes, which took place on Saturday 30 September and Sunday 1 October, were part of Trafford Leisure’s extended celebration of National Fitness Day, which also saw Spinning®, circuits, plyometrics and Zumba events added to the programme.

Pozzuto is one of the UK’s most sought-after PTs, having worked with well known names including Keira Knightly, Gordon Ramsey and Ben Miller. Both members and non members were given the opportunity to try out Pierre’s Body HIIT, a body-weighted high intensity interval class, Plyo-Shock Circuits and Core Blimey, medium intensity training meets HIIT, where exercisers alternate between core exercises and explosive moves with ‘addition’ and ‘elimination’ rounds to see who’s left standing at the end.

Achieving a black belt in Shotokan karate aged just 13 and becoming a fitness instructor at 17 and a national presenter at 20, Pozzuto offers fitness advice in national magazines such as Heat, Cosmo, Company and UltraFit. He is also known for inventing the class Agrowbics, which claims to help people grow by at least 2cm, through a mix of pilates, yoga, strengthening and speed work, along with a session on 15th century-inspired rack.

Jo Cherrett, COO of Trafford Leisure, which runs the centres on behalf of Trafford Council said: “We invited Pierre along to add an extra weekend treat to the group exercise programme for our members, as part of our celebrations of ukactive’s National Fitness Day. Pierre’s creativity, expertise and professional flair was well received by staff and customers and whilst, sadly, we can’t get Pierre back here every weekend, following the great feedback we’ve had, we haven’t ruled out adding something else new and exciting to our programmes.”

Pozzuto said: “The first thing I noticed was how kind Trafford Leisure staff were – they really set the scene for a great weekend. It took me back to my youth and first ever classes at The Michael Sobell Centre in north London. It’s been a good 10 years since I taught at a leisure centre and I forgot how welcoming it all is. It was refreshing to see whole families getting involved in fitness. The friendly approach opens the door to more interaction, feedback and understanding between trainer and member, which is priceless.”

Some of those taking part said: “This was absolutely fantastic today at Stretford! Thanks to whoever organised it.”

“Fantastic class with Pierre, it was tough. It was really good, as are all the classes at the centre.”

“The class with Pierre encouraged me get back into exercise because I was anxious about coming back after having a baby.  I had a really good workout, yet I was able to workout at my own pace.”
