Better Gym Stratford Opens

Better Gym Stratford, located in the heart of East Village in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, just a stone’s throw from Westfields Shopping Centre and Stratford International Station, has now opened and provides the local community with a no contract, low-cost offering.

Leisure design and build specialist Createability transformed the area above the local Sainsbury’s into a 10,000 sq ft health club showcasing 130 Technogym stations, a functional training area with an XCube functional frame and a free weights zone with dumbbells up to 40 kg, squat racks, bench presses, a lifting platform and Technogym pure strength plate loaded machines.

The £900,000 gym also features a 2,000 sq ft studio offering a range of classes including cardio, aerobics, dance, HIIT, strength, calm, indoor cycling and circuits, a stretch area, changing rooms and one small office for the gym team, admin and management to use. Security access turnstiles enable fast track entry to the gym.

Several layers of specialist flooring were used in the free-weights and treadmill areas as an acoustically engineered solution to minimise possible noise and vibration.

According to Ian Cotgrave, Managing Director of Createability, “The results are impressive and virtually eliminate any disturbance to shoppers and staff in the retail unit below.”

Cotgrave continues: “This is the third GLL Better Gym that we have helped to create following a successful 20 year working relationship with GLL. The location, intuitive design and layout of the new Better Gym Stratford provides the local community with a low-cost fitness offering and will most certainly, in-line with the previous two gyms in Sidcup and Romford, prove exceptionally successful.”

Ongoing membership costs £28.95 a month and includes access to all group exercise classes. Members can access any GLL Better venue, centre or pool by paying a small £3 access fee for each visit, although full unlimited access to all Better Gyms, centres and pools is available with a Better Health and Fitness UK membership for £55 a month.
