Award success for 1FitLife’s work to support people living with Parkinson’s
Health and wellness content creator, 1FitLife, was Highly Commended at the Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network Awards for the creation of specialist activity videos developed to encourage people living with Parkinson’s to become and stay as active as possible.
The videos form the basis of a 10-week online ‘Get Started’ programme for people living with Parkinson’s, delivered in collaboration with Reach Your Peak, Neurological physiotherapists providing an online community for people using exercise to treat Parkinson’s. 1FitLife’s work with Reach Your Peak was recognised in the highly competitive Community Support Award category.
The Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network Awards celebrate outstanding health and social care services for people with Parkinson’s. This year, the awards were expanded to better reflect the diverse teams of professionals who support people with Parkinson’s.
David Langridge, Managing Director at 1FitLife, said: “We are thrilled that the content created for the Parkinson’s community has been recognised at their awards this year. We are pleased to learn that the online exercise is having a positive impact on people living with Parkinson’s; participants who completed Reach Your Peak’s 10-week programme are reporting an improvement in their health, with a 30-second sit to stand being used as a measure of strength.
“Online exercise accessibility can be advantageous for a wide range of individuals, especially those who might have barriers to attending community and in-person groups, including those living with health conditions such as Parkinson’s.
“Our collaboration with Reach Your Peak has enabled us to create an evidence-based exercise programme suitable for a wide range of people with Parkinson’s. The content engages and educates the audience; it’s more than just online exercise.”
The content, all produced at 1FitLife’s studios in Bournemouth, gradually increases in intensity and duration to achieve clinical benefits for users. The videos are led by trusted health professionals and include seated and standing exercise options to accommodate different abilities and the fluctuating nature of Parkinson’s symptoms, whilst also providing education on how exercise benefits Parkinson’s and how to develop a lifelong exercise habit.
Maria Lewis, Co-Founder, Reach Your Peak says: “We are delighted to have received a Highly Commended Community Support Award for our Get Started Programme. We wanted to produce an exercise programme for people with Parkinson’s that not only delivered on content but had a high production value to ensure the best possible engagement.
“Our collaboration with 1FitLife allowed our vision to become a reality. We are very grateful to Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network for the award and look forward to future collaborations with 1FitLife.”
